# of AIBC Learning Units: 1 Core LU

This event is intended for architects.

Presentation Summary:

Engineered Wood Products (EWP) are commonly used as primary structural members in projects throughout BC. Parallel Strand Lumber (PSL) is a type of engineered wood that was invented and continues to be manufactured in British Columbia. With its efficient raw material use and high strength, PSL makes it possible to design long spans using a single solid section engineered wood product.

Through a guided tour of a PSL manufacturing facility, you will also discover the manufacturing process for producing these structural beams, headers and columns.

Learning objectives:

  1. Discover the manufacturing process for producing high-strength PSL beams, headers, and columns
  2. Learn how PSL integrates with other types of Engineered Wood Products and how they can be used collectively in advanced floor and wall systems
  3. Explore design and field considerations for working with PSL and how specification can improve results and reduce costs
