Expo Mueble Internacional is the leading furniture and decoration fair in Latin America bringing together the main national and international furniture manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, suppliers, furniture stores, interior designers, hotel designers, and has 25,000 visitors from Mexico and the world. “Most imported wood is handled by direct importers and distributors who resell the product either to the industry (furniture, carpentry, construction, packaging), to other distributors, or to retailers or specialized stores that handle large volumes.”

During the week of the trade show, participating BC Wood members will have B2B meetings and site visits with important lumber and building product importers in Guadalajara, plus join a networking breakfast with key importers, hosted by BC Wood.

The furniture sector in Mexico keeps growing at a steady pace with over 17,000 plants and 75% located in the Guadalajara (Jalisco) area. Finishing wood materials are used in high end homes, offices, tourist resorts and hotels. This event provides an opportunity for BC Wood members to develop business relations with key importers while gaining insight into the furniture side of the wood market.

Mexico loves timber and there is a lumber surge as Mexico’s economy continues to defy expectations sustaining an annual economic growth of between 3-4% since the pandemic. More than 50% of the lumber imported into Mexico comes from the United States (53.6%) followed by Brazil (28%), Chile (13.5%), and Canada fourth (3%). Mexico is America’s largest timber buyer, with US lumber companies exporting more than 132,500 cubic metres across their southern border in June 2024 (which is up more than 13.5% over 2023). 62% of Canadian lumber is transported into Mexico by rail, 25% by truck, and 13% by sea (Guadalajara + CDMX).The United States, Canada and Mexico, have vowed to work together to end illegal logging, deforestation and conflict timber across the USMCA zone. The 24-month project, which kicked off in January 2024, is being administered by the CEC – a joint initiative of the US, Canadian and Mexican governments – and aims to “increase understanding and awareness of wood products; helping consumers support SFM (or Sustainable Forest Management) and contribute to the fight against illegal logging through their purchase power.”
