Introduction

As we all become better stewards of our environment, we are also becoming increasingly aware of the
products we consume and use in all aspects of our lives including our shelter. As the only renewable
building material, wood is a natural choice, not only for its beauty and versatility but for its
environmental attributes and through the strict harvesting controls in place today in British
Columbia, wood will be available for our children, their children and beyond.

The best use of wood is with products that add the greatest value. To this end, British Columbia
boasts of a large and diverse value-added wood manufacturing industry consisting of over 800
manufacturers varying in sizes and products produced, much of it world class.

BC Wood Specialties Group is a trade association dedicated to growing BC’s value-added wood
industry and is at the forefront of efforts to encourage the use of wood in projects throughout BC,,
Canada and the world. As part of that effort, BC Wood is partnering with the architectural and
designer community to develop resources that will provide them with increased access to BC’s entire
value-added wood industry. We are doing this through a variety of programs including Lunch &
Learn and other Seminars; our participation in conferences and events such as BC WoodWorks

Wood Solutions Fairs; and developing resource tools such as this Specifiers Guide.

This Specifiers Guide has been designed to serve as a source of inspiration, innovation and as an
informative guide to the world class wood products manufacturers we have in British Columbia.
BC Wood and its members are ready to work with the architect & designer community to
demonstrate British Columbia’s innovative design and manufacturing expertise.
