The investment will support export market diversification and strengthen trade resilience for BC’s value-added wood industry.
Langley, BC – August 10, 2026 – BC Wood Specialties Group announced today that it has received $5,280,480 in funding from the Government of Canada through PacifiCan’s Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI). The investment, provided over the next three years, will support BC Wood’s work to diversify and grow export sales of BC’s value-added wood products in key and emerging international markets, while expanding distribution of BC’s wood products to other provinces across Canada.
The funding will help BC Wood connect local wood product manufacturers with buyers and specifiers through international trade shows and trade missions, explore new markets, and secure new business opportunities in Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
“BC Wood Specialties Group is thankful to hear of PacifiCan’s Regional Tariff Response Initiative investment that our association will be receiving over the next three years. This stable funding directly contributes to diversifying and growing our members’ wood value-added export sales to key and emerging markets overseas, and also bringing more BC wood to elsewhere in Canada. Part of our strength as a resilient economy is having numerous robust trade relationships. We look forward to expanding the value of forestry products sold within our own country and to the many countries globally that Canada enjoys friendly trade agreements with.”
– Kelly Marciniw, Chairperson of the Board, BC Wood Specialties Group.
The funding was announced today as part of a broader package of more than $30.5 million in RTRI investments for 24 businesses and organizations across British Columbia. The initiative is designed to help B.C. companies navigate global trade disruptions, pivot to new pathways for growth, improve productivity, and build more resilient supply chains.
“Trade disruptions are creating real challenges for the B.C. businesses that are the backbone of our economy. That is why the Government of Canada is stepping up with investments – to help these businesses build more resilient supply chains, grow productivity, and open doors to new markets. By investing in B.C. businesses, we’re creating the conditions they need to thrive, succeed, and build Canada strong.”
– The Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada.
The RTRI funding will allow BC Wood to continue supporting its members in reaching new international buyers, reducing reliance on any single export market, and strengthening the domestic market for BC wood products across Canada.
